Juventus plot £30million transfer for Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher after scouting star last season

ITALIAN giants Juventus are plotting a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, SunSport has learned.

The shot-stopper played all three matches in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States as first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker enjoyed extended time off after the Copa America.

Kelleher, 25, was particularly impressive in the 3-0 win against Manchester United last weekend, shutting out the Red Devils with a number of fine saves.

He picked up from where he left off last season in a campaign which saw him step up and deputise for Alisson when he was injured.

Now it’s emerged that Juventus, who are in the market for a new keeper, are mulling over a move for the player.

They watched him last season and have been monitoring his form over pre-season.

It’s believed Liverpool would ask for at least £30m for the Irish international, who has two years left on his current Anfield contract.

That fee is unlikely to put off Juventus, who see the player as an investment who can spend at least five years as their number one.

Celtic were reported to have been interested at the end of last season, but moved to sign Kasper Schmeichel on a free transfer instead.

Kelleher has legitimate ambitions of making it as a first-choice goalkeeper at another club and despite those positive pre-season signs, it’s thought he would be open minded to a move.

The 14-cap Irishman made 26 appearances last season as injury sidelined Alisson for large spells but realistically he will have to settle for a place behind the 31-year-old in the pecking order in the long term.

Liverpool are yet to make any additions to the first team squad this summer.

They are understood to be keen on signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.

However, the deal is understood to be complicated with the midfielder’s release clause having to be paid in full.

Zubimendi is believed to have a £51.7million buyout in his Sociedad contract.
