IPSWICH super-fan Fabio Wardley hopes to bring a huge fight to Portman Road – and give the Tractor Boys something to cheer about.

But for heavyweight Wardley, it is a totally different story having recently improved to 18 wins and just one draw in his last bout.

The former British and Commonwealth champion is closing in on a massive next fight – targeted for the home of his beloved Ipswich.

Wardley, 30, told SunSport: “We don’t know all the details exactly.

“Me and the team are working closely with Frank Warren, obviously Queensbury as well to try and pull something off at Portman Road this summer.

“Boxing is boxing. At the end of the day, it’s never simple, it never comes off exactly how you want it to.

“So the whos, the whens, the ifs and the maybes are all still very much floating around in the air.

“But it’s a key priority for us at the moment, Portman Road.”

Wardley brutally knocked out and hospitalised Frazer Clarke, 33, in their October rematch which came after their epic draw seven months prior.

There was talk of the rematch heading to Portmand Road before it eventually landed in Riyadh.

Now Wardley has vacated his British belt in a bid to focus on world titles while being linked with WBA “regular” champ Kubrat Pulev, 43.

And he said: “I wanted it to be a real fight, real contender, real show for everyone, for the fans and supporters that would travel out and watch, support and tune in.

“So I wanted it to be a real big event. So you need the right dance partner for that.

“There was considerations of me versus Frazer second fight of it being there but logistically it didn’t marry up perfectly.

“But post that, I was thinking, right OK, cool, I’m in the top ten now with every governing body we need to find a big name and see if we can pull that off.”

Ipswich are nine points from safety and face a fight to avoid the drop – but Wardley’s next bout could help turn fortunes around at Portman Road.

He said: “They’re strong boys as well, they’re tough boys, they can fight through.

“Look, I’m an Ipswich boy born and bred, so we know what we can do. We’re not not scared of adversity so they can power through.

“But hopefully they can do their bit and if everything all does come off how we want it to, then yeah, sometime maybe in the summer I could do mine as well.”
