Inside AEW stars Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo’s whirlwind romance from shock marriage to first baby together

AEW stars Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo have transformed their tag team into a trio with the birth of baby girl Luna Melo.

Guevara said the couple’s “life is complete” with the arrival of their daughter on November 28 after over 24 hours of labor.

It has been a whirlwind romance for the professional wrestlers who started dating in January 2022, got married just seven months later and have now become parents.

The couple, who were AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions, started dating in controversial circumstances soon after Guevara split up from his fiancee Pam Nizio.

Guevara had been with Nizio for eight years and proposed to his high-school sweetheart prior to an episode of AEW Dynamite in August that year.

When Melo and Guevara started dating, the couple received a lot of heat on social media amid rampant speculation about how they got together.

“At the end of 2021, there was all that drama with me and Sammy,” Melo said in an interview with Denise Salcedo.

“I was super upset because that was the best year of my career.”

Melo, who has over one million social media followers, was hurt by speculation that she was dating Guevara while he was engaged to Nizio.

“I know who I am, and I know I did nothing wrong… 

“People just talking s***.

“People just created a whole storyline, a whole drama for something that never happened.

“Really never happened.”

Melo admitted that the negativity started to affect her mental health.

“I got really bad in here [points to her head], my mental health was not doing OK,” she added.

“After a couple days, a couple weeks it was like, ‘Well this is my job, this is the life that I chose to do so I need to deal with the consequences and then try to do my best’.”

Melo said she was able to get through the situation thanks to the strength of her relationship with Guevara.

“Sammy and I were meant to be, it’s crazy,” she said.

“He’s really my best friend like before our relationship, we were really good friends. 

“He helped me so much with stuff that I was going through and he was always there for me.

“I cried so much with him. I think that’s how we became this force together.”

The couple got engaged in a trip to Paris in June 2022 and were married two months later in a lavish ceremony in Orlando, Florida.

In a show-stopping moment, the couple announced their pregnancy at AEW’s Double or Nothing 2023 in May.

The couple walked out onto the stage together holding a series of posterboards reading: “It’s time for the big match,” followed by “but first…” then “we have big news to share, concluding with “we are having a baby!”

The last board was also adorned with sonograms of their little one.

They have both been absent from AEW programming in recent months due to Melo’s pregnancy and Guevara’s concussion.
