“I Should Be More Intelligent” – Thomas Partey Takes The Blame As Arsenal Crash Out Of Carabao Cup

The chance for Arsenal to lift the Carabao Cup trophy this season fizzled into thin air on Thursday as the Gunners crashed out of the tournament after losing the semi-final second leg match against Liverpool.

The North London club, playing at the Emirates Stadium, lost 0-2 as they could not sustain the tempo that saw them play a 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield in the first leg encounter.

One player that has taken the blame for the loss and apologized to the fans is midfielder Thomas Partey.

Partey who was introduced in the second half of the game, picked up two yellow cards in the space of three minutes and was sent off to leave the team down to 10 men, Naija News reports.

After the game, the player who only recently returned to London after Ghana crashed out of the AFCON 2021 tournament said he should have been more intelligent on the ball and avoided the tackles that got him sent off.

Taking to his Instagram page to apologize, the midfielder wrote: “I am responsible for anything that happened and will take all the critics.

“I should be more intelligent not to get in a challenge already booked but this is my personality. I like to fight for every ball.

“I love this club and I love my country even though things sometimes don’t happen how I wanted. I would continue to work harder and make things right.

“I came back with the mentality to make myself available for the team to get to the final but it did not happen as planned.

“I will continue to give my all when I am on the field of play because this is my life and this is what I chose to do.

“I am not happy with all that has happened yesterday and at the AFCON but I understand only with hard work things will change so I will continue to work hard to change this. Thanks.”

Liverpool will now face Chelsea in the finals of the Carabao Cup scheduled for February.
