NEWCASTLE stars are set to earn a huge payday if they win the Carabao Cup on Sunday.

The Toon take on Manchester United at Wembley chasing their first domestic trophy since 1955.

Squad bonuses were often a point of contention under former owner Mike Ashley.

But according to the Mail, Newcastle stars are set to share £1million if they can taste Wembley glory.

It’s claimed that the cash will be distributed in accordance to matches and minutes played in the League Cup this term.

Loris Karius, expected to make his Toon debut in Sunday’s showpiece, would still take home a chunk, despite not having played in the early rounds.

Eddie Howe will also be due his own bonus if he can become the first manager to win Newcastle a domestic trophy in 68 years.

The EFL only grants prize money of £100,000 to the winners of their flagship competition.

Runners-up, meanwhile, receive £50k.

Ahead of the final, Howe vowed that his side’s passionate fans can help his team get over the line.

He said: “From the people that I meet around the city and any interactions I have with supporters, whether that’s at six o’clock in the morning outside the training ground or when I’m leaving, the passion here and support for their team is truly incredible.

“I think the players know the responsibilities that they have to go into a game like this and try to be the best that we can.

“When you get to this stage, I think they know the pressures they will face so it’s a case from my position of trying to take them away and get to focus on the match itself.”

On Karius, he added: “We’ve all got stuff that’s happened in our careers and our histories that you learn from and I think he’s no different in that respect.

“Since day one since he came here, he started where he hadn’t had a lot of work before he joined us.

“He’s trained with our goalkeeping coaches in a really good way and I think his general performances in training have improved as he’s spent more time with us.”
