Heartbroken Olympics star claims she’s out of 100m despite qualifying after country failed to register her in huge gaffe
ATHLETICS controversy has gripped the Paris Olympics after a sprinter claimed she had not been registered for the 100m sprint despite qualifying.
Sprinter Favour Ofili won silver in the 200m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and was hoping to add an Olympic title to her medal cabinet.

However, she saw her dreams of doing so in the 100m sprint shattered after the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) allegedly failed to register her.
Ofili, 21, took to social media to share the news that she had not been registered for the women’s 100m event starting from August 2.
The perplexed sprinter said: “It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games.
“I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me.
“I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity. For what?”
Ofili is not registered on the entry list for the women’s 100m, but is down for the 200m and 4x100m events.
She is the national record holder for Nigeria in the 200m, and has already won gold medals in the event at the 2019 African Youth Championships.
The LSU athlete also fumed about 14 Nigerian athletes, including herself, not being allowed to compete in Tokyo after funds were not released for medical tests.

She added: “Please remember, in the last Olympic Games I was not able to compete because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes to be tested, which made 14 Nigeria athletes that qualified to not compete.
“Now THIS……
“If those responsible are NOT held accountable for taking this opportunity from me, neither organisation can EVER be trusted in the future!”
The AFN and NOC have been contacted for comment.
In 2021 Ofili also won bronze in the World Under-20 Championship.
