He missed the first half of the season with an ankle problem but has been a regular since returning in January.

There was no obligation to buy in his loan terms but even if he wanted to move permanently, Sampdoria would not be able to afford it.

The Italian outfit are at risk of going bankrupt and have had issues just paying players and staff.

They also look set to be relegated this season given they are ten points from safety with ten games to go.

Winks will return in the summer to parent club Spurs, where he will still have a year to go on this contract.

But even though there could be a new manager in place at the North Londoners by then, SunSport understands the midfielder is likely to be on the move again.

Winks revealed he was not contacted by anyone at Spurs despite suffering a lengthy injury.

He said: “I feel indebted to Sampdoria, if I had been available from the start I would have given my all.
