‘Had to make sure I wasn’t getting catfished’ – Newcastle hero Dan Burn reveals Tuchel FaceTime after England call-up
DAN BURN has had the best week of his life this week after his thumping header helped Newcastle to their first trophy in 70 years.
Not only did he grab a spectacular goal, he also totally nullified Mo Salah and was rewarded with the Man of the Match award.

All of that to top off a week in which he got his first England call-up from Thomas Tuchel too.
Speaking after the cup final win, he said: “I feel really strange, I feel numb at the minute, I haven’t got any emotion which is strange, I’m wanting to feel something but it’s not really sunk in to be honest, I don’t know when it will.
“I’m very very proud to be from Newcastle and to be a part of that team. I’ve said it before it would be a real shame if we were not to win something.
“We’ve had that experience the last few years of playing in these big games and being able to handle pressure and I thought we saw the game out so well.
“It wouldn’t be a Newcastle performance without making it a bit nervy at the end so we had to do a bit there.
“I never ever wanted to say it but it did feel like a bit of a burden.
“That pressure on having to be that team to break the ceiling and I think now knowing that we can do it and we’ve got that experience hopefully that’s the first of many.
“Since the owners came in and the manager came in we’ve made a real big thing about winning trophies, I think that just gives us the confidence.”

The Toon cult hero couldn’t quite believe what was happening at the time of his England call-up earlier on in the week, even suspecting it could have been a prank.
Asked about the moment, Burn said: “Amazing, very surreal. I got a text on Tuesday morning off the manager and I wasn’t really sure if it was him.
“I had to send a few texts just to make sure I wasn’t getting catfished or anything, so he FaceTimed us and I was trying not to look just in case (it wasn’t him).
“But he was amazing, when it went so long where it feels like I’ve been playing consistently well and the international break goes by and you’ve not been picked you feel like your time has gone but I’m very very thankful I’ve been given this opportunity and really want to grab it with both hands.
“It’s got to be the best week of my life, I’d struggle to top this. I’ve definitely had worse weeks.
“I’ve got zero social media but my phones been going off. I’ve had the same number since I was 16 so you wouldn’t believe the amount of messages I’m getting.
“I’m just very thankful.”
