‘Greatest leg of darts EVER’ – Michael Smith hits sensational 9-darter in World Championship final against Van Gerwen

MICHAEL SMITH pinned a nine-darter in the World Darts Championship final in the SAME leg that Michael van Gerwen missed D12 for a perfect leg of his own.

The Dutchman came within inches of becoming the first player in the tournament to achieve the feat in the third leg of the second set at Ally Pally.

But Smith showed him how it’s done straight away in one of the greatest legs of darts ever seen.

The World No.4 needed to hit back after a poor first set that he lost and responded in the perfect way.

The remarkable sequence started when MVG struck a 180 that Smith followed with one of his own.

Van Gerwen then threw a 177 before Smith landed his second maximum of the leg.

Incredibly, both players were on for the perfect leg with the three-time champ needing 144 and Smith requiring 141.

Van Gerwen went first, hitting two T20s before agonisingly missing D12 for the first nine of the event.

Smith then had his chance and took it in stunning fashion.

He firstly equalled what the Dutchman did with two big trebles.

But this time, the two-time runner up nailed the double to send the Ally Pally crowd wild.

It was the first nine-darter at the Worlds since Gerwyn Price did so against Smith in last year’s quarter-finals.

But Smith will be hoping for a better ending after he beat the Welshman that day before going to lose in the final to Peter Wright.
