Getafe boss defends Mason Greenwood as a ‘great guy’ after Man Utd loanee’s alleged clash with Jude Bellingham

MASON GREENWOOD was labelled a “great guy” by his manager following his alleged clash with Jude Bellingham.

Getafe boss Jose Bordales defended his player after fans claimed Bellingham called Greenwood a “rapist” during their clash this week.

LaLiga have called in a lip reader to investigate a complaint by Getafe about the alleged slur.

Bordales was questioned about the incident and responded saying it is up to the league and the Spanish FA to make a judgement.

But he also took an opportunity to defend Greenwood and his character.

He said: “I know the same thing that you know. It’s not up to me, it’s the club, LaLiga and the Federation that have to make an assessment about it.

“The only thing that I can say is that I ask for respect for Mason Greenwood because he is a great guy. He is a man who respects everyone and has exemplary behaviour.”

Getafe also asked match referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea to record the incident in his match report.

And although Spanish League chiefs have no power to sanction players, if experts confirm “indisputably” that Bellingham used the alleged slur towards Greenwood they will pass the matter on to the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation.

Greenwood, 22, joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United in September, seven months after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control were dropped.

Bellingham, 20, also moved to LaLiga in the summer in a £115million deal to Real Madrid, who beat Getafe 2-0.

The meeting between Bellingham and Greenwood was the first time two English players met in the Spanish top flight for 22 years.
