Gary Lineker reveals word he has to mute on Twitter after being overwhelmed by digs about embarrassing World Cup moment

GARY LINEKER has revealed he’s had to mute the word ’s**t’ on Twitter.

That’s after being overwhelmed by digs about his embarrassing moment at the 1990 World Cup.

England icon Lineker, 62, netted 48 goals in 80 games for his country.

And he almost led the Three Lions to a World Cup final 33 years ago before Germany won their semi-final on penalties.

However, the 1990 tournament in Italy did not start well for Lineker.

England’s first group game was against the Republic of Ireland.

And although he opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw, the second half saw Lineker unfortunately soil himself on the pitch.

To this day, fans still like to joke about the ex-striker’s dirty protest.

And Lineker has now revealed he’s muted the word ’s**’ on Twitter to avoid any more toilet-related banter.

Speaking on Joe Lycett’s Turdcast podcast, Lineker said: “My little accident became public knowledge around 20 years after the event, about the same time as I went on Twitter, as it was then known.

“Every single tweet I would put out, underneath would be, whatever I was talking about say ‘I’m going to see Joe Lycett this afternoon’, it’ll be ‘S*** on Joe Lycett’.

“It’ll be multitudes of them all saying the same thing, whatever the subject, if I was talking about Manchester City it would be ’s*** on Manchester City’.

“Brilliantly witty of them all. In the end they had this thing where you could mute words, so I muted s***, and I have really not seen any since, it actually works.”

Lineker had previously revealed more about the incident itself, adding: “The ball goes out on their left hands side and I kind of did a lunge at it and as I did that I kind of relaxed.

“And it’s just gone BOOF and I’ve gone ‘Oh my God’. And I’m sat there on the ground and it’s all there.

“And I went ‘I’ve s*** myself’. I felt like crying. Thank God we had the dark blue shorts on and not the white ones.”
