However, he will be absent from the first episode of the new season due to a schedule clash.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker said: “We will be back on Monday reflecting on all the action of the opening weekend.

“It’s up and running, the Premier League starts again. But before that, of course, I will be on Match of the Day. You’re on Alan aren’t you?”

While Shearer responded to say that he will feature, Leicester legend Lineker chimed in to add: “And Micah’s not. Because you’re doing Super Sunday.”

The ex-Newcastle striker went on to question: “What happened?! I thought you’re on with us!”

And Richards was forced to admit: “Super Sunday for Sky. I got the dates and it was a clash of dates.”

Shearer then asked how Super Sunday clashed with Match of the Day, which is filmed on a Saturday.

But Richards responded: “I can’t work Saturday and Sunday I’ll be knackered.”

“What am I listening to here? Let’s just revisit ‘I can’t do Saturday and Sunday’. Did you just say that?” Shearer said.

“I was told you were on with us!

“Give your f***ing head a wobble, will you?”

Lineker then concluded by joking: “No wonder his career petered out,” before the trio erupted into laughter.

The new Premier League season kicked off on Friday when Man Utd clinched a 1-0 win over Fulham.
