Gameweek 3 Booster strategies: Max Captain viable amid several one-sided match-ups

0

Gameweek 3 is almost upon Dream Team managers and thoughts once again turn to mountainous points totals.

12 of the 20 Premier League clubs will pull double duty this coming week and with several one-sided match-ups (on paper at least) to come, gaffers would do well to consider all their options carefully.

With that in mind, let’s mull over potential Booster strategies.

Max Captain

Whichever one of your players scores the most points during the Gameweek will automatically be selected as captain

The general consensus is that this Booster is best used when there are several viable captaincy options because of various favourable fixtures.

Gameweek 3 may well fit the definition with Manchester City travelling to Sheffield United, Arsenal v Fulham, Manchester United v Nottingham Forest and Chelsea v Luton.

However, given Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino have overseen disappointing performances at the start of this season, it seems wise to focus predominantly on the treble-winners and the Gunners.

Truth be told, Erling Haaland (£8.6m) at Bramall Lane feels too ominous to take on.

Save Max Captain for a later date, back the Norwegian cyborg.

Select an additional player from any position to score points for your team for one Gameweek only

This is the most viable Booster for the upcoming Gameweek as it allows gaffers to capitalise on the favourable fixtures to an extra degree.

Fulham have conceded 36 shots in their opening two games, 17 of them being on target.

That’s simply unsustainable from Marco Silva’s side and a similarly leaky performance at the Emirates on Saturday would likely result in heavy defeat.

Long-term selections such as Bukayo Saka (£6.1m) and Martin Odegaard (£4.9m) should enjoy themselves but Eddie Nketiah (£2.2m) looks well placed to cash in too.

The 24-year-old won’t start when Mikel Arteta has a fully-fit forward line to choose from but he’s leading the line for now and will fancy his chances of scoring past his old team-mate Bernd Leno (£3.3m) this weekend.

Elsewhere, Julian Alvarez (£4m) is a tempting option with Pep Guardiola’s troops taking on the Blades.

Most Dream Team bosses will feel that Haaland is all the City forward they need but the Argentine World Cup winner has started both his side’s league games this season.

The former River Plate forward scored City’s winner against Newcastle in Gameweek 2 and has looked sharp.

The first thing to note is that you’re going to want your XI set up in a 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 formation when this Booster is activated.

Chelsea may have suffered a loss to West Ham on Sunday but their fixtures look mighty fine for the foreseeable future.

The Blues host Luton in the Premier League on Friday night before welcoming Wimbledon to Stamford Bridge in midweek for a Carabao Cup encounter.

A pair of clean sheets has to be considered a relatively likely outcome.

If that’s the case then backing a defence stacked with Ben Chilwell (£4.5m), Levi Colwill (£2.5m) and Malo Gusto (£2.5m) could be immensely profitable.

Saying that, Pochettino is likely to rotate on Wednesday night and gaffers will rightly be hesitant to use their Park the Bus Booster on a defence that conceded three to the Hammers just a few days ago.

A Chelsea-heavy defence could work but it’s probably best to wait until last season’s top teams have multiple fixtures in a Gameweek before activating one of your precious Boosters.
