Frank Lampard insists Jose Mourinho is ‘still a big story’ and is adamant there is ‘a place for him in football’

FRANK LAMPARD reckons Jose Mourinho is no busted flush.

The once ‘Special One’, 60, was sacked by Serie A club Roma last week.

Ex-Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss Mourinho is now at a crossroads in his managerial career.

But Lampard, who enjoyed great success with Portuguese chief Mourinho including two Premier League titles during his first spell as Chelsea manager, believes he will rise again.

Lampard said: “There’s absolutely a place for him in football.
“You manage with your style and I don’t think anyone wants him to go miles away from that. That’s what has given him success over the years.

“He can’t change from being Jose. It’s won him 30 titles or whatever it is. It would be interesting to see where he pops up next.”

Lampard remains in contact with Mourinho, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia club Al-Shabab.

And the Blues favourite has defended his former manager despite leaving the Italians in ninth spot.

Lampard told the Stick to Football podcast: “I saw when he lost his job recently that people said his win percentage is 38.2 at Roma which is his lowest ever and that’s why he has got the sack.

“Of course, it was. He was at Roma – not Chelsea with a squad that is going to get 70 per cent win rate. That’s the reality of it.

“Everyone has different challenges. He got them to two European finals, he wins one of them and doesn’t win the next one.

“I don’t know what happened at Roma because I don’t watch loads of Italian football.

“It would be lazy to go he’s harsh on players. He’s still a big story. I know he’s been sent off many times but that comes with Jose.

“I don’t know what he was like with the Roma players. I’ve seen players last week say thank you very much and I know that can happen and onto the next one.

“At the same time I would like to think he’s adapted because he’s a smart man.”
