SHEFFIELD UNITED legend Paddy Kenny has quit his first managerial job after just 33 days.

The 45-year-old former goalkeeper jointly took charge of Northern Counties East League Premier Division outfit Goole alongside Nathan Helliwell on October 24.

They secured a 5-1 win over Eccleshill United in their first league game at the helm and followed that up with a 3-0 triumph over the same opponents in the cup.

However, a 3-0 setback against Hallam FC saw form nosedive as they suffered three more consecutive losses.

And yesterday’s 4-2 defeat to Campion has led to Kenny leaving his duties after personal commitments led to him missing several matches during his brief stint in the dug-out.

He confirmed his exit on X, formerly known as Twitter, this afternoon to leave Helliwell as sole manager of the second-bottom team.

Kenny wrote: “Unfortunately I’ve not been able to make the last couple of games so I’m stepping down as @GooleAFC manager due to family/work commitments.

“Gutted it’s not worked out but it’s a very demanding job and I just can’t fully commit, wishing Goole, player & @NathanHelliwel4 all the best.”

Kenny spent eight years at Sheffield United including one in the Premier League.

The ex-stopper also spent a season in the top-flight with QPR.

Kenny had spells elsewhere at Bury, Leeds, Bolton, Oldham, Ipswich, Rotherham, Northampton and Maltby Main, before his retirement in 2018.
