Fans stunned as Man Utd target scores own goal that is ‘so Afcon’ they’re convinced he ‘put it in on purpose’

MANCHESTER UNITED fans were left stunned after transfer target Edmond Tapsoba scored a calamitous own goal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back, 24, emerged as a possible signing for the Red Devils back in October as Erik ten Hag sought to bolster his defensive options.

But Man Utd may well have been put off after watching the Bundesliga star’s nightmare moment for Burkina Faso.

During his country’s last 16 clash at Afcon, they nearly fell behind against Mali in less than three minutes when a header crashed against the post.

But moments later they were behind as the rebound bounced out to Tapsoba who dreadfully put the ball into his own net.

It was an embarrassing error that gifted Mali the lead, before they went on to claim a 2-1 win.

And Man Utd supporters were quick to react to their transfer target’s dismal mishap.

Speaking on social media, one person said: “Absolute banter tournament.”

Another added: “That’s amazing .”

A third replied: “Puts it in on purpose .”

While a fourth responded: “So Afcon.”

Tapsoba’s own goal is the latest in a list of several chaotic moments at Afcon.

Earlier this week, Equatorial Guinea star Federico Bikoro was sent off for a “kung-fu” kick on Guinea’s Mohamed Bayo.

And off the pitch there have been some bizarre goings on too as host nation Ivory Coast sacked their manager at the end of the group stage… before they went through and beat holders Senegal to reach the last eight.

They will now face Mali on Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.
