Fans hail ‘football heritage’ as Sheff Utd supporter rolls down LGBTQ+ flag to celebrate goal against Tottenham

FANS are hailing a “football heritage” moment after a Sheffield United fan tumbled over an LGBTQ+ flag while celebrating a goal.

Gustavo Hamer struck in the 73rd minute to give Sheffield United the lead after a backs to the wall performance from the Blades.

His goal sent the away fans into absolute bedlam and led to one fan falling over the railings and crashing to the floor via Spurs’ rainbow flag.

The celebration even made it into Match of The Day as cameras captured Hamer and the United team running towards their away support.

One fan on Twitter gave a nod to Jose Mourinho as he said: “This is football ‘eritage.”

Another fan wrote: “I seen your man rolling down it on MOTD and was hoping someone would get it on twitter.”

A third wrote: “Didn’t notice this yesterday!” alongside three laughing emojis.

Sheffield United’s celebrations proved to be short-lived however as Spurs mounted a brilliant comeback late on.

Substitute Richarlison netted the equaliser as he headed home from an Ivan Perisic corner.

And Spurs found the winner just two minutes later when Richarlison set up Dejan Kulusevski to score a 100th minute winner.

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie saw a red card in the 114th for a second yellow and will now miss The Blades’ game against Newcastle next Sunday.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom lambasted referee Peter Bankes’ performance after the game saying that it was “appalling”.

He said: “”The officiating is appalling. It’s not about the football decisions, just game management. My worry is that all the focus is on the yellow cards, time-wasting, the new guidelines.

“The focus all of a sudden comes onto time-wasting, so they’re dictating how we play. If you play to take goal kicks from the back, you set up one way, and if Spurs go against that, that dictates the decision you make.

“We’re getting told to just play long – you can’t do it. Wes [Foderingham] got booked for handling outside the box and then you’re threatening him with another yellow [for dissent], you just can’t do it.

“When I speak to the referees, they haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about. They’re officiating our games at the top level, and they simply do not know the game. We need to sort that, and sort it quick. It ruined the spectacle.”
