Fans demand Olympics gold medallist DISQUALIFIED after outrageous celebration for winning 20km race walk

FANS have hilariously demanded that Ecuador’s gold medallist Brian Daniel Pintado be DISQUALIFIED for his celebration on Thursday.

Pintado copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic “Siu” pose after he crossed the finish line to become Olympic champion in the men’s 20m race walk.

The 29-year-old  took a moment to catch his breath before jumping up in the air and throwing his hands down by his sides, emulating Ronaldo.

He then let out a deafening scream to release all that pent up emotion athletes hold before competing on the world’s biggest stage.

In a historic moment for Ecuador, Pintado clinched their first medal at the Paris Games and the delegations fourth gold medal in Olympic history.  

Pintado clocked 1:18:55 to earn his country’s first gold medal in athletics since fellow race walker Jefferson Perez won gold in this discipline at the 1996 Olympics.

Brazil‘s Caio Bonfim took silver in 1:19:09 and world champion Alvaro Martin earned bronze in 1:19:11.

Team GB were represented by Suffolk’s Callum Wilkinson, a gold medallist in the 10km race walk at the World Junior Championships in 2016. 

But the 27-year-old finished 39th in the field with a time of 1:20:31, one minute and 36 seconds back from Pintado. 

And fans couldn’t believe the new Olympic champ did the “Siu”.

Andy Murray’s swansong with Dan Evans continues – they face Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals (3.30pm). 

And the golf starts today, meaning Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick will tee off for GB, with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry flying the flag for Ireland (from 8am).

World No1 Scottie Scheffler leads an all-star USA golf team, though, alongside Open champ Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark.

The athletics officially begins with the men’s and women’s 20km race walks today (6.30am and 8.20am). 

The world record is a staggering 1:16.36 – that’s an average of 3m50s per km while WALKING.
