Fred, 30, joined the Turkish outfit in a transfer worth £13million on a four-year deal with an option for another year.

However, after 13 appearances for the club, he has been linked with a return to the Premier League.

Fotomac have claimed that Newcastle are keen on signing the midfielder in January.

This is due to the ten-month ban that has been handed to Sandro Tonali due to breaches of betting rules.

The Magpies will be in the market for a new midfielder to replace the Italian while he serves his ban.

The club have been claimed to be looking at the possibility of reducing Tonali’s wages while he is banned.

Fred would offer Eddie Howe plenty of Premier League experience, having played 139 times in the competition for Man United.

The Brazilian moved to Old Trafford in 2018 as he completed a £47million switch from Shakhtar Donetsk.

It could prove to be tricky for Newcastle to sign Fred as he has proved to be a key player for Fenerbahce.

He has provided five assists so far, which have contributed to Fenerbahce’s storming start to the season.

The Yellow Canaries have won all nine of their Super Lig games and all three of their Conference League group fixtures.

The report does claim that there are three other names on Newcastle’s list should a move for Fred fall through.
