Manchester United star, Marcus Rashford, said he regretted joining England’s National team, Three Lion’s, in the just concluded Euro 2020.

The 23-year-old admitted he may have opted to wait behind and undergo shoulder surgery instead of joining his home playmates to play in the Euro competition.

Naija News recalls that Rashford was one of three players who missed penalties during a dramatic penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

The development subjected him to racist abuse on and off social media. Rashford’s club, United in its reaction, condemned the vile behaviour against the star and urged fans to report abuse and discrimination online on its portal.

Recounting his experience many days after Euro games, Rashford in a lengthy social media post, hit out at critics who labelled him as “selfish”, for choosing to join the Three Lions’ squad and delaying his operation.

The player wrote: “In hindsight, if I had known (sic) I wouldn’t have played a significant role in the Euros, would I have gone? Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn’t it…

“I didn’t want to let anyone down but ultimately looking at some of my performances towards the end of last season I felt like I was.”

Rashford with the look of things could miss United’s first 11 games of the season in the Premier League and Champions League, as well as England’s next five World Cup qualifiers, Naija News observed.

Meanwhile, an explosion suspected to be from a planted bomb has killed four Somalia footballers.

The incident happened on Friday (today) when the local footballers were travelling for a match at the Kismayo city stadium in the Southern part of the country, Naija News reports.
