EPL: Chelsea Close To Agreeing Deals With Two Key Defenders
English Premier League club, Chelsea have reportedly succeeded in agreeing to terms with defenders Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen.
Naija News understands that there have been assertions that the two defenders may likely not renew their contract with the Blues for a reason or the other.
However, Gianluca Di Marzio reports on Monday that Thomas Tuchel’s side is on the verge of closing in on deals with the two key players
It could be recalled that Brazil international, Silva arrived at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer in August 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 37-year-old defender played a key role to earn the Blues the 2021 UEFA Champions League trophy after knocking out Pep Guardiola’s side, Manchester City.
Despite this achievement among others, there was uncertainty surrounding Silva’s future with the club until the recent report.
Meanwhile, Danish youngster, Christensen will become a free agent at the end of the season as it stands.
But Chelsea are increasingly confident both players will still be on board next term. It is believed the Blues are “one step away” from agreeing to terms with the 25-year-old player.
In another news, Chelsea has joined the race for signing Brazilian professional footballer, Carlos Casemiro.
Naija News understands that the 29-year-old who plays as a defensive midfielder for Spanish club Real Madrid is currently been rated at €70m.
Thomas Tuchel’s side has, however, shown interest in the player in a bid to boost its defensive line next year.
Casemiro who is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world caught the attention of the English club having played 307 games for Real Madrid, scoring 30 goals and registering 27 assists in the process.
However, Madrid is considering letting go of the Brazilian after this summer in the wake of poor displays in the first half of the current season.
The La Liga club is said to have already identified Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, as a replacement for Casemiro, who has a contract at Santiago Bernabeu until June 2025.
