Daly, who lives in Clearwater Beach just outside Tampa, is among the thousands to have fled the town yesterday.

Brutal 140mph (225 kph) winds and severe flooding has hit Florida’s Big Bend area.

Daly, 58, took to social media as he left Clearwater Beach, first posting a snap of the weather radar.

He wrote: “Prayers for all those in the path of the Big Bend!

“God Bless and Everyone Please Be Safe during Hurricane Helene! #thisismyhome.”

Then in the early hours of the morning, the two-time major winner updated fans, writing: “For everyone that has reached out, my family are all safe but all our homes are not.

“Water is pouring out of every crevice! Total loss and devastation after living here all my life!

“I still cannot imagine ALL we have lost but we are SAFE and all can be replaced! Praise God!”

Daly also shared videos of the rain flowing through the streets of Clearwater Beach alongside the caption: “Praying for everyone – total loss for words.”

The National Hurricane Center said preliminary information shows water levels were at 15ft above ground in the region.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis reckons the damage from Helene in the Clearwater area appears to be more than the combined impacts of Idalia and Hurricane Debby in the summer.

Helene has now been downgraded to a tropical depression as it hit Tennessee and Kentucky.
