EL HADJI DIOUF TIPS SENEGAL AND GHANA TO TAKE AFRICA HIGHER AT THE 2022 WORLD CUP
Former Senegalese striker El Hadji Diouf has tipped the Terenga Lions and Ghana to fly the name of Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Diouf spoke to the media on his arrival in Accra on Thursday, April 29, 2022. He is in Ghana to attend the book launch of Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan.
The 2001 and 2002 African Best said ” I can tip Senegal and Ghana to fly higher at the World Cup as they have done it before”.
He went on to explain ” playing at the World Cup is a different thing in football, you need to give up your best”. ” It is not like playing the African Cup of Nations where you can say Senegal is the best and indeed we are the best”, Diouf said.
Diouf then added that “you need a strong team with committed players to go higher at the World Cup and I know we have the players to do this, we have a difficult match in our first game as we play Holland, they are a big team with great players and we need to start off very well. We have to prepare very well to beat them and that will push us on at the World Cup.”
Diouf further emphasized that, ” Qatar and Ecuador are good sides and have developed in recent years but we need to go in well prepared and we can beat them and qualify from the group.”
He went on to explain that “Ghana has good players as well and their performance at the previous World Cup proves they can do it.”
Senegal recently beat Egypt to qualify for the World Cup in a fierce battle. This came after they had beaten the Pharaohs on penalties to win their first ever African Cup.
