Eddie Howe ‘plots transfer raid on two-cap England star’ ahead of Newcastle’s Champions League campaign

NEWCASTLE UNITED are reportedly plotting a transfer swoop for Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

Boss Eddie Howe is determined to strengthen his squad this summer ahead of their return to the Champions League next term.

Howe also wants to bolster his Newcastle defence and has now been linked with the twice-capped England international.

However, the Daily Mail claims that any move for the 26-year-old ex-Tottenham ace “will depend on what they have left of their budget”.

Southampton, who have just appointed Russell Martin as their new manager following relegation to the Championship, are due to hold a recruitment meeting on Monday.

They are determined not to sell their stars cheaply despite falling out of the Premier League.

Captain James Ward-Prowse is wanted by West Ham and several others.

While fellow midfielder Romeo Lavia is also being chased by Arsenal with Chelsea interested too.

And they will demand top dollar for Walker-Peters also, with the ace still having two years to run on his contract.

Newcastle have also held a long-term interest in Arsenal’s Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney.

But this fresh update says that Walker-Peters’ “ability to play well on both flanks may tick more boxes” for the Mags.
