Dundee United ‘accept six figure offer’ from Fulham for talented teenager Rory MacLeod

DUNDEE UNITED’S teenage starlet Rory MacLeod is set for a summer switch to Fulham, according to reports.

The 17 year-old is also being tracked by Southampton and Newcastle but is set to travel down to London this week for talks with the Cottagers.

If everything goes well, the striker is expected to conclude a six-figure transfer when the window re-opens at the end of the season.

And the Daily Record claims the Scotland under-17 cap could then be loaned back to Tannadice to continue his development there next season.

The news will come as a blow to long-suffering United fans who have grown exasperated with recent developments at their club – with sporting director Tony Ashgar a particular target for their wrath.

There was frustration last month that United failed to add significantly to their squad in the January transfer window – but instead let Tony Watt move on loan to rivals St Mirren.

United sit bottom of the table after conceding a comical second goal to St Johnstone’s Stevie May in Saturday’s Tayside derby.

Tangerine heroes Paul Sturrock, Paul Hegarty, Billy Kirkwood, Davie Dodds, John Holt, Maurice Malpas and Hamish McAlpine were paraded before kick-off to celebrate 40 years since they won the league. 

What they watched afterwards won’t have them filled with confidence United will even be in the Premiership next season. 

Angry United fans hurled insults at Ashgar and boss Liam Fox in earshot of visiting owner Mark Ogren.

He’s here for the club’s AGM on Tuesday and to placate frustrated supporters’ groups.

Fox later insisted he’s still the man to lead United to safety.

He said: “Any manager’s position at any club comes under scrutiny when you’re on the kind of run we’re on. 

“So I accept that, there’s no issue there for me because everyone is entitled to their opinion. 

“I still feel I am the man to get the club where we need to get to, I have no doubt in my mind about that. 

“We are frustrated, we’re disappointed and we’re angry. 

“We are still bottom of the table. I’m not hiding from that. 

“We need to take it on the chin, keep working and I believe the harder you work the more breaks you’ll get.”
