Double cricket tragedy as deaths of legends Clyde Butts and Joe Solomon announced on same day

CRICKET legends Clyde Butts and Joe Solomon have both sadly passed away.

The pair’s deaths were both announced on the same day by Cricket West Indies.

Both announcements were made on Friday night as it was confirmed Butts and Solomon had died.

Butts, 66, captained Guyana and was an off-spin bowler for the West Indies during his playing career.

After retiring he spent time as the West Indies chairman of selectors.

Solomon also starred for both Guyana and the West Indies during the 1950s and 1960s.

The batsman was famous for the run out which led to the first-ever tied test match against Australia at the Gabba in 1960.

He had also been the West Indies’ oldest living test cricketer at 93-years-old.

Cricket fans were quick to pay tribute to both players on social media following the news.

“RIP Legend,” wrote one devastated fan under the announcement of Solomon’s death.

Another also paid their respects to Butts, commenting: “That’s sad news, my thoughts go out to Clyde’s family and friends.”

Their deaths came on the eve of England’s final one-day international against the West Indies in Barbados.

The three-match series is currently tied at 1-1, with the two teams also scheduled to play five T20 matches this month.
