Disbelief as stewards disqualify horse for absolutely no reason after ‘watching wrong race’
BUNGLING stewards needlessly robbed punters of thousands when disqualifying a horse for absolutely no reason at all after ‘watching the wrong race’.
The unbelievable scenes occurred at a racecourse in New Mexico, US, last Friday – but the baffling backstory has only just come to light.
A Separate Star, circled, did absolutely nothing wrong but was disqualified by stewards
A source told one website that the stewards had DQ’d the horse after watching the wrong replay
An investigation is underway into what exactly went on and whether the punters who staked and lost on the horse – £30,000 was put on the race in all – will get their money back.
A Separate Star broke from stall two and was beaten a neck in the 400-yard claiming sprint.
Shortly after the field of ten crossed the line, a bing bong sounded to indicate a stewards’ enquiry.
Paulickreport.com say after just two minutes of discussion, runner-up A Separate Star was disqualified for interference and placed fourth.
But the horse did not once interfere with another runner or even come close to any of his rivals.
Racing boss Izzy Trejo admitted the three stewards on duty messed up – but then incredibly praised them for being ‘good’.

He said: “These are good stewards and I applaud them for being honest and admitting to the error immediately after it happened.
“They took the blame from the get-go.
“Despite that, we do owe an apology to the wagering public that bet on this race.”
Trejo added: “We want to apologise to the people who put their hard-earned money on this race.”
He said the whole thing was an ‘oversight’ by stewards Connie Estes, Gary Terrien, and David Lupo.
But Paulick Report said one unnamed source said the debacle occurred after the stewards ‘watched the wrong replay’.
Amazingly, in the race before, a horse breaking from the same stall veered out into another runner at the start, sparking a chain reaction.
There was no enquiry or disqualification and the horse finished seventh.
Punters voiced their anger online, with one labelling the whole situation ‘pathetic’.
Another said ‘outrageous something like this can happen’ while one wrote: “This is incredible. And by incredible I mean incredibly ridiculous.”
