Daniil Medvedev has Wimbledon meltdown after ‘losing set’.. but leaves his team in stitches after getting score WRONG

DANIIL MEDVEDEV berated his coaching team after he thought he’d lost the first set of his second round tie… only for them to laugh at him as he’d gotten the score wrong.

The Russian, 28, was first up on Centre Court at Wimbledon for his clash with Alexandre Muller.

Despite sitting 97 places above his opponent in the ATP rankings, Medvedev did not have things all his own way.

After settling down from an initially nervy start, Muller began to play some sparkling tennis.

And as the first set went into a tiebreak, the world No102 began to take control.

At 3-3 in the breaker, Medvedev furiously barked at his team, after both players had made Centre Court titter by turning up their grunts.

Then bizarrely serving at 5-3 in the breaker, the former world No1 lost track of the score.

After botching a serve and volley attempt, Medvedev again yelled up at his team, thinking he had lost the first set.

He even sat back down in his chair, making hand gestures at French coaches Gilles Cervara and Gilles Simon as he did so.

His mistake then dawned on him, as he sprung out of his chair to keep playing on at 6-3.

He needn’t have bothered, as just one point later Muller grabbed the first set 7-3 in the tiebreak.

Following his comfortable win over Aleksandar Kovacevic on No1 Court on Monday, Medvedev admitted that he prefers Wimbledon’s second biggest arena.

He said: “It was a great match to be honest. There were moments in the match when it was not as easy as the score would suggest.

“So I’m really happy with my level. I still never lost on No1 Court so hopefully I can play a lot more matches on this court.

“I said last year before the semi-final that, unfortunately, I have to go to Centre Court and I actually lost.

“This year I got lucky: I managed to practise on Centre before the tournament so maybe it can give me some edge for the future, but for the moment I want to play on Court No1 and try to win.”
