Crystal Palace next manager odds: Hodgson favourite as Parish hatches succession plan, Gerrard and Carrick considered

ROY HODGSON is favourite to be Crystal Palace manager for first game of 2023-24 Premier League campaign.

That’s according to bookmakers Ladbrokes, who’ve priced the veteran 75-year-old at 11/8 to remain at Selhurst Park for another season.

Hodgson has guided Palace to five victories from eight games since replacing Patrick Vieira.

The Eagles will match their best Premier League points tally of 49 if they win their final two fixtures, against Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

Hodgson is undecided on whether or not he would like to carry on, but reports suggest chairman Steve Parish will ask him to extend his stay.

The Guardian claim Parish’s plan is for Hodgson to continue with his assistant Paddy McCarthy, who will be lined up as the long-term replacement.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Roy Hodgson could be here for the long haul if the latest odds are anything to go by, with the current caretaker clear favourite to get the permanent gig this summer.”

Reports claim highly-rated coach McCarthy is a popular figure amongst the Palace squad, and has rejected more senior opportunities elsewhere.

Other candidates will be assessed, and Ladbrokes believe former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter is the next most likely incoming.

The Englishman is priced at 7/1 to return to first-team management in South London, just ahead of 9/1 chance Adi Hutter.

Hutter, 53, has managed Red Bull Salzburg, Young Boys, Eintracht Frankfurt and most recently Borussia Monchengladbach, where he lasted just 37 matches.

Lille boss Paulo Fonseca is also under consideration at 11/1, with Ange Postecoglou behind at 14/1.

There’s a clutch of bosses at 16/1 including Brendan Rodgers, Michael Carrick, Carlos Corberan, Lucien Favre, Ralph Hasenhuttl, Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard.
