Cringe moment tennis star says he is ‘real father’ of rival’s daughter in live TV interview leaving fans in shock

ANDREY RUBLEV awkwardly joked that he is the “real father” of Daniil Medvedev’s baby daughter after their doubles match yesterday.

The duo are taking part in World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi this week.

Medvedev’s wife of five years Daria found Rublev’s comment hilarious

They are both on the Eagles team alongside Mirra Andreeva and Sofia Kenin.

Rublev and Medvedev, who have been friends since their days as juniors, teamed up to take on Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

They won a tight encounter 7-3 in a deciding tiebreak.

After the match, Rublev was interviewed on live TV.

During the interview, it was put to the 26-year-old: “I believe you’re the godfather of Daniil’s child?”

He then cheekily butted in: “I’m the real father.”

Medvedev, 27, didn’t exactly laugh along with his pal.

But when the TV feed cut to his wife Daria, she appeared to find Rublev’s comment hilarious, laughing along.

One fan reacting on social media wrote: “Yeah. Awkward. But if you tell lots of jokes you’ll miss sometimes.”

While a second commented: “Meddy not happy.”

A third laughed along: “How can you not love Rublev!??”

But a fourth fumed: “It’s quite disrespectful.”

Another added: “Rublev is hilarious, love it.”

Medvedev and Daria celebrated their daughter Alisa’s first birthday in October.

The happy couple have been married since 2018, with Daria almost always travelling with Medvedev on the tour.

Medvedev and Rublev are both among the stars gearing up for the new season in exhibition events.

The latter was in London last week for the Ultimate Tennis Showdown event at ExCel.

Rublev is set to jet out to Hong Kong next week to begin his 2024 season.

Medvedev, meanwhile, has not entered any events ahead of the Australian Open, which gets underway on January 14.
