Constitution Hill and Shishkin stranded up north after Newcastle abandoned by snow
NICKY HENDERSON’S stable stars Constitution Hill and Shishkin were left stranded and looking for a place to crash after Newcastle was called off.
Both horses were on their way up to the north east and had reached as far as Darlington when the meeting was abandoned due to snow and frost.

However, they could not simply turn around and head home to Lambourn as HGV drivers are restricted by law to driving nine hours a day.
It meant Hendo had to scramble around to find them – and his staff- a place to lay their heads before the long journey home today.
And to add to the trainer’s woes, he is having to find alternative targets for his big guns.
Henderson said: “We stopped them about an hour and a bit before they got there, because Newcastle kindly gave us a heads up.

“The problem is, they can’t get back to Lambourn tonight because the drivers are out of hours.
“I have staff and horses – not insignificant horses – floating around the north of England looking for a bed tonight.
“They’re away in a manger but there is no manger!
“With Constitution Hill, if they save the Fighting Fifth, he won’t be able to run in both that and the Christmas Hurdle, so it will be one or the other.
“Shishkin is a much bigger concern – he will run in the King George but running in that race first time out is going to be very difficult.”
It was a mixed bag for Henderson at Newbury on Friday.
His exciting novice hurdler Jeriko Du Reponet made a big impression on his Rules debut and is now a general 8-1 shot for the Supreme at Cheltenham.
But Marie’s Rock ran very disappointingly in the Long Distance Hurdle behind Dashel Drasher.
On Jeriko, he said: “It probably wasn’t the strongest novice hurdle ever run at Newbury, but he did it nicely and is a stunning looking horse.
“We won this race with Jonbon a few years ago and he was drenched with sweat and living on his nerves – this horse is the total opposite, he is very laid back.
“I think Kempton would be the next stop for a race we’ve done well in in the past.”
