Chelsea Vs Barcelona: Oshoala Breaks New Record After 4-0 Win

While FC Barcelona players were mourning their 1-2 defeat to Celta Vigo in the LaLiga games on Sunday evening, their femeni players were beating toothless Chelsea femeni to 0-4.

Naija News understands that an own-goal from Melanie Leupoiz set Barcelona women ahead of Chelsea from the first minutes of the game.

While the Chelsea ladies are yet to recover from the rush, Alexia Putellas secured the Catalans’ femeni their second goal of the day winning a penalty kick. Aitana Bonmati again in the 20th minute of the game netted Barcelona their third goal.

Barca completed the rout in the 36th minute of the first half,  winning their 4th goal after a top notch finishing by Caroline Graham Hansen.

Nigerian striker, Asisat Oshoala was, however, a late substitute as Barcelona spared her due to an injury crisis lately. Naija News understands that Oshoala had been out of action for some time could only be risked for a short time on the pitch despite passing a late fitness test.

However, coming in in the 71st-minute as a substitute for Jennifer Hermoso, Oshoala attempted to make Barcelona’s win against Chelsea to five goals but was denied by a last-ditch tackle by Niamh Charles.

She also had the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside. The Catalans passionately produced an emphatic display to brush aside Chelsea 4-0 in the Women’s Champions League final on Sunday.

It was the Spanish side’s first title and they did it in style at the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, thumping the English champions.

The win makes Oshoala the first African to win the Women’s Champions League title. The four-time Africa Women’s Footballer of The Year had been involved in Barca’s previous appearance in the final – a 4-1 defeat to Lyon – where she scored her team’s solitary goal.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles and Leicester City’s star, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have been praised for displaying the Nigerian National flag after their FA Cup trophy win against Chelsea.

Speaking with newsmen in an interview moments after the victory by Leicester, Joseph Dosu who’s an Atlanta ’96 Olympics gold medal winner and a former Regianna goalkeeper, said that it was great seeing Iheanacho and Ndidi with the nation’s flag.

The act according to him shows the player’s sense of unity even while some people want to divide the nation.
