With just two runners left, 25-1 Rose Fandango was victorious.

6-1 A Pint of Bear came in second.

Winning jockey Rossa Ryan called it in a “one in a million event”.

And racing commentator and Sun Racing columnist Matt Chapman labelled it “extraordinary”.

The broadcaster shouted down the microphone “stop, stop, stop” as the chaos unfolded.

Fans found it hilarious, with one commenting: “Elite Chapman moment.”

Others watched on is disbelief, saying: “Absolute shambles.”

Another added: “Well that was embarrassing.”

After sealing victory, winning jockey Ryan revealed he believed there was a malfunction between the start button being pushed and the lids on the stalls not opening.

He said: “I was lucky because I could only just about hear the whistle and the lads were roaring behind me to pull up.

“Luckily, mine pulled up and to be honest, I didn’t quite know the rule that if you pass the line you’re out.”
