BRITISH MMA star Simeon Powell will mark his return to the cage at Bellator London on September 14.

The Londoner has drawn comparisons to UFC great Jon Jones for his similar 6ft 5in light-heavyweight frame.

Powell, 25, last year reached the PFL Europe final only to be beaten in the $100,000 winner-take-all showpiece by Jakob Nedoh.

He was then due to return in Dublin in June until opponent Abdellah Er-Ramy pulled out at the last minute.

Despite his heartbreak, Powell gets a quick turnaround as SunSport can reveal he will return in the capital against 13-7 veteran Rafael Xavier.

He said: “I’m going to throw down in my hometown for my Bellator debut, as the OVO Wembley Arena is just a stone’s throw away from where I was born and raised.

“It didn’t matter who they wanted to put in front of me, I’m going to put on a show for everyone in attendance on 14 September, my fans will not be disappointed.”

On the undercard, his team-mate Luke Trainer will also be in action against Laurynas Urbonavicius.

Light-heavyweight Trainer last year proposed to his girlfriend in the cage and looks to improve on his 8-1 record.

The night’s main-event sees Fabian Edwards – younger brother to UFC champ Leon – rematch Johnny Eblen.

Eblen, defending his Bellator middleweight title again, beat Edwards by stoppage last September.

But just 12 months on and the rivals will run it back with Edwards looking to make history as the first brothers to hold two MMA world titles.
