Brighton owner Tony Bloom, Frankie Dettori and their desperate quest to end seven years of hurt

BRIGHTON owner Tony Bloom is looking to end almost seven years of hurt with Frankie Dettori when the duo team up again on Friday night.

Billionaire Bloom has booked red-hot Dettori to ride his horse Stratum in a Group 3 contest at Leopardstown.

Stratum has bagged more than half a million quid for his owner, winning over fences, hurdles and on the flat.

But despite riding the Willie Mullins-trained ten-year-old on three occasions, Dettori has never tasted victory on his back.

The world’s most famous jockey last rode Stratum over an inadequate 1m3½f trip at Windsor in October 2016.

Dettori has been beaten a head twice on the horse and went down just half a length in that Class 3 Windsor contest.

Since then, Stratum has gone onto land mega pay days including scooping £218,000 with victory in the 2019 Cesarewitch.

Jason Watson was in the saddle that day, while Ruby Walsh, Paul Townend, William Buick and Ryan Moore have all won on Stratum.

Dettori will be desperate to add his name to that illustrious list in the 6.55 Saval Beg Levmoss Stakes over 1m6f.

But they will have to go some way to turn over big 1-2 fav Emily Dickinson.

Moore will hotstep it over to Ireland from York to take the ride later this evening.

Dettori is in his final season in the saddle and looks hellbent on getting as many winners as he can.

He was brilliant on Arrest in the Chester Vase while Soul Sister shook up the Oaks market with her stunning York win.

He said: “He is finishing here on Champions Day on October 21, he’s told me that.”
