Bookies boost punter’s life-changing win by thousands thanks to little-known rule

A RACING punter’s life-changing win from a ‘speculative’ bet was boosted by thousands thanks to a very handy – but little-known- rule.

‘Best odds guaranteed’ is a bookie concession that means if a horse drifts out to a bigger price than what you backed them at, you are paid out at the bigger odds.

And this BetMGM punter’s payout was boosted massively thanks to the offer which is there to benefit bettors.

The punter put £24.55 on a treble made up of two horses running at Leicester and another at Hamilton.

Salamanca Lad won the 8.30 at Leicester at odds of 4-1 by just over a length under Amo Racing’s No1 rider David Egan.

Next up it was the turn of Thaki in the 8.45 at Hamilton.

The Katie Scott-trained seven-year-old gelding was backed at 9-1 but sent off 12-1 for the Class 6 handicap over six furlongs.

He jumped out well under Sam James and made all to keep the audacious treble rolling onto the final leg.

It was back to Leicester to see Catch Cunningham in a Class 5 sprint over the minimum trip.

Again, backed at 5-1 he was unfancied by everyone else and drifted out to 13-2.

But it turned out the punter was right and all others wrong as the Michael Herrington-trained runner won by a length.

It meant the bettor pocketed just shy of £120,000 from their £24.55 punt – although the jackpot was boosted by more than £4,600 thanks to best odds guaranteed.

UK Director at BetMGM, Sam Behar, said: “It might have looked like a speculative punt on first glance, but one of our customers enjoyed a very profitable evening having won nearly £120k.

“Their £24.55 299-1 treble included winners at 4-1, 5-1 and 9-1, and thanks to our Best Odds Guaranteed concession, their winnings of £119,68.13 were boosted by over £4.6k.”
