Arsenal vs Southampton betting tips

It’s make or break for Arsenal when they welcome rock-bottom Southampton to the Emirates Stadium on Friday. The Gunners remain top of the Premier League table but their advantage has been whittled down to just four points after failing to collect maximum points against Liverpool and West Ham.

On the face of things, points at Anfield and the London Stadium aren’t bad results.

But blowing two-goal leads in consecutive matches has many believing that the title is Manchester City’s to lose. The bookmakers agree, they have Pep Guardiola’s side at odds-on 4/9, with Arsenal trailing at 9/5.

Victory against Southampton could increase Arsenal’s lead to seven points having played two games more than their rivals, before the all-important crunch meeting at the Etihad on April 26th.

The stakes are just as high for the visitors, who have seven matches left to protect their Premier League status. Saints are bottom of the division with 23 points, and sit four adrift from safety with the the second-worst goal difference in the top flight (-29).

Ruben Selles’ side have lost three on the bounce against West Ham, Manchester City and Crystal Palace, and haven’t won since beating Leicester in March.

Frustration…

Arsenal could well and truly let the handbrake off against Southampton on Friday. The Gunners feel they should have taken maximum points from their last two outings, and the visitors could arriving at the worst possible moment.

“We gave them hope instead of killing game,” said Arteta after Sunday’s draw and that message will be echoing in his players ears when they take to the field.

Arsenal have scored a staggering 22 goals in their last seven Premier League fixtures, and have netted 4+ goals in three of their last four home league matches. Southampton, meanwhile, have conceded 2+ goals in four of their last five and only Leeds have conceded more in the last five PL matches.

Our tip: Arsenal -3 Goals at 16/5 with William Hill

At the double…

Gabriel Jesus hasn’t wasted any time in reacquainting himself with the scoresheet. The Brazilian has scored nine goals this season, and has four in his last three appearances including a brace against Leeds.

No Arsenal player has had more big chances than Jesus in the last two weeks, and no Gunner has had more attempts at goal.

Our tip: Gabriel Jesus to score 2+ goals at 6/1 with William Hill

Yellow warning…

There’s no doubting that Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia will develop into a top, top player. But the 19-year-old has been somewhat of a booking magnet this season.

The teenager has picked up a yellow card eight times in 28 appearances this season, including one during the defeat to Crystal Palace and no Saints player has committed more fouls in the last four matches.

The defensive midfielder will be charged with breaking up play against a relentless Arsenal under the Friday night lights, and we expect him to go into referee Simon Hooper’s book.

Our tip: Romeo Lavia to be booked at 5/2 with William Hill
