BBC pundit forced to pull out of World Snooker Championship at last minute as he releases statement

NEIL ROBERTSON has pulled out of BBC punditry duties at the World Snooker Championship in order to care for his dog.

The Aussie, 42, had been due to work as an analyst for the Beeb after failing to qualify for the event.

Robertson missed the cut at the Crucible for the first time since 2005 after losing 10-9 to Jamie Jones.

The 2010 world champion subsequently agreed to work as a pundit at the event, but has had to withdraw due to his dog falling ill.

Confirming the unfortunate news on social media, Robertson wrote: “Hey guys. Just letting you know sadly I won’t be part of the punditry team next week as our dog has fallen very ill and needs some thorough assessment.

“It’s touch and go so all (prayer emoji) really needed.”

Fans were understanding of Robertson’s decision, with many offering him well wishes.

One wrote: “Sending all my love and best wishes, Neil! Please take care.”

While a second posted: “Ah man, gutted to hear this. Thinking of you and the family.”

And a third added: “Sorry to hear mate, hope all goes well.”

Robertson had fallen to world No24 in the rankings, having endured a difficult season to date.

After giving away a sizeable lead against Jones, he said: “Well, that hurts. Fair play to Jamie though from 8-5 up I barely had a chance he played brilliant.

“Tough season all round and some time off needed for sure. Thanks everyone for the continued support.

“I’ll be back much stronger next season, I can guarantee that.”

Jones, 36, went on to draw four-time world champion John Higgins, 48, in round one.
