Ange Postecoglou loses right-hand man as Tottenham assistant boss lands manager’s job with former Premier League club
BIRMINGHAM have announced Tottenham assistant coach Chris Davies as their new manager.
The Midlanders have been relegated to the third tier for the first time since 1995, largely due to Wayne Rooney‘s disastrous brief reign.

Birmingham said in a statement: “Davies has signed a four-year contract and joins the Club with immediate effect from Tottenham Hotspur after the two parties agreed compensation.
“He brings more than 15 years of coaching experience working at a number of leading Premier League teams, including Spurs, Liverpool and Swansea City, and Celtic in Scotland, operating alongside leading managers such as Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers.
“The 39-year-old is a highly regarded coach, recognised for being tactically astute, and an excellent communicator.
“He is also known for working with and developing exciting young talent.
“His appointment ends a robust search by the Club which saw close to 1,000 coaches being evaluated and more than 40 being spoken to directly or through their representatives.”
Birmingham chairman Tom Wagner has admitted blundering by axing John Eustace in October when the Blues were sixth in the Championship.
Manchester United legend Rooney came in – only to be sacked after 83 days and 15 games in charge, with the Blues in 20th spot.
Tony Mowbray initially steadied the ship but stepped back due to health issues.

Gary Rowett was the interim chief for the run-in – but not even a final-day 1-0 win over Norwich could prevent demotion to League One by a point.
Football Insider say the Blues then held talks with ex-Chelsea manager Lampard amongst others.
And another potential target, newly-sacked Hull chief Liam Rosenior, signalled he was not interested in the role at this stage.
Instead Birmingham have appointed Postecoglou – arguably the main man in Postecoglou’s coaching team.
No doubt he will now be dreaming of eventually taking the Blues back up to that top-flight level.
