ALAN SHEARER has brutally called out Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus for “consistently underperforming” for Mikel Arteta.

The Brazilian striker’s goal drought has caught the attention of the Premier League’s all-time top scorer.

Jesus, 26, is in his second season for the Gunners having made the switch to North London in 2022 from Manchester City.

The forward seemed promising during his six years at City with 95 goals in 236 appearances.

But he has struggled to produce any threat in front of the posts for Arteta’s side – who hope to win the Premier League title.

His best season at Man City saw Jesus net 23 goals but last term only managed to score 11 for Arsenal.

Football icon Shearer believes the Brazilian needs to find his scoring boots again.

He told The Athletic: “Without wishing to pick on him, he has consistently been underperforming his xG over the past few years.”

Jesus has only scored three goals this term and only one of those was in a league game when Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1.

Shearer spoke on the forward’s huge miss in the North London derby to highlight why Jesus’s performance has plummeted.

Tottenham managed to scrape a point in last month’s clash coming from behind twice in the game and ending the match in a 2-2 draw.

Jesus missed a golden opportunity to put Arsenal 2-0 up and Shearer shared his goal-scoring expertise to say why the slip-up occurred.

Shearer continued “Exhibit A right here in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham.

“Jesus does really well to anticipate the pass and nabs the ball from James Maddison’s toes.

“He goes with the option of hitting his shot with the front of his foot, which is fine; it’s something I used to do a lot of the time.

“He also goes for power and there’s nothing wrong with that either because power shouldn’t take away from your accuracy.

“I always felt that if I picked my spot and got my shot away, then the harder I hit it, the harder it would be for the ’keeper to stop it.

“A load of my goals were struck firmly and weren’t more difficult to control.

“But this is another example of leaning back for a shot; Jesus’ body and technique are all wrong.”
