And he has decided to skip the Prix de l’Abbaye on Arc day and instead have an early crack at the Americans in the Woodford Stakes at Keeneland on October 7.

The four-year-old, who showed blistering speed when winning York’s big Group 1 sprint last month, will fly out to Kentucky next Thursday.

He will then spend a couple of days in quarantine before getting ready for his prep race, in which he could face some of the top US sprinters, including reigning Turf Sprint winner Caravel.

And he will then join the Kentucky-based American horses on the flight down to Los Angeles in readiness for the Breeders’ Cup on November 4.

West, who will make a flying 48-hour visit to Keeneland next month, has been busy preparing the gelding for his trip across the Pond and was thrilled with a recent racecourse gallop at Chelmsford.

West said: “The entries for the Woodford are looking strong, we’ll be taking on the best of the best so will have a good idea of where we stand.

“I’m trying to keep a lid on everyone at home as the race at Keeneland is over five and a half furlongs, and it is his prep race, so it isn’t the be all and end all.

“The big day will be a few weeks later at Santa Anita, where the sharp five furlongs will be perfect for him.

“We have been doing lots of gate work and practising him with bell starts like they have in America.

“We took him to Chelsmford to work on the turf around a bend and we were really pleased with him.

“I can’t believe how quickly it’s coming around, we are all incredibly excited.”
