Frankie Dettori banned after winning race with his horse disqualified and placed last

FRANKIE DETTORI was banned after winning a race – and suffered more humiliation when his horse disqualified and placed last.

Dettori has started his US stint after bringing the curtain down in the UK with a spectacular last-to-first ride on King Of Steel on Champions Day.

But he went from first to last at Santa Anita – site of this week’s Breeders’ Cup – with Circle Of Trust.

The Philip D’Amato-trained two-year-old filly was first past the post in a maiden last Saturday.

But stewards noticed Dettori causing interference to rivals Blue Oasis and Motet.

Blue Oasis, who was a length and a quarter back in second, was awarded the race.

Dettori was banned officially for ‘careless riding’ – and has been lucky with where his suspension falls.

The three-day ban kicks in on November 5 – the day after the Breeders’ Cup – and also applies on November 10 and 11.

Dettori is already banned from November 7 as a result of two whip rules violations at Ascot.

That has ruled him out of a money-spinning ride in the Melbourne Cup, held in Australia on Tuesday week.

Dettori was banned on Champions Day for going over the whip limit on his Long Distance Cup win aboard Trawlerman.

While he was also suspended for breaking whip rules on his runner-up finish on Kinross in the Champions Sprint Stakes.

Dettori will be reunited with King Of Steel in the Breeders’ Cup Turf on Saturday – just two weeks after their Ascot heroics.
