Man City ‘set Kalvin Phillips asking price’ with Newcastle and fellow Premier League side ready to sign England star

MAN CITY have set a price for out-of-favour Kalvin Phillips, according to reports.

The former Leeds United star, 27, has struggled for game time at the Etihad.

He was signed in 2022 for £42million fee, but has failed to hit the heights expected.

That has led to interest from rival clubs, who believe they could steal the midfielder away from the Champions League winners.

Newcastle United, Liverpool, Juventus, and West Ham are said to be all tracking the Yorkshire Pirlo.

And now the Mirror claim that City are looking for a fee of £50million, when the January transfer window opens.

Pep Guardiola’s side are hopeful of their rivals starting a bidding war that could drive the price up.

Previously, they had accepted that he could leave for £40million, with the Hammers reportedly desperate to add him to their ranks.

But, the player told City chiefs he was willing to stay at the club and fight for his place in the first team.

Phillips has made just five starts in his 15 months at the club.

Three of his appearances this season have come for England, but when he got his opportunity with Rodri suspended he failed to impress Guardiola.

The report adds that Phillips is now ready to move to ensure he stays in Gareth Southgate’s plans for next summer’s Euros.

Newcastle United are said to be frontrunners for his services, with the fee not said to be a problem.

The Toon are also looking for midfield reinforcements following Sandro Tonali’s 10-month suspension, after he admitted breaking betting rules.
