SCOTTISH singer Amy Macdonald has seen a 2007 single shoot to the top of Saudi Arabia’s Spotify chart… thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, 38, is the most followed person in the world on social media, and his influence has grown further still since joining the Saudi Pro League last year.

TikTok highlights of every game he plays for Al-Nassr go viral, with his latest having unexpected consequences.

Videos set to Scots singer Macdonald’s hit “This is the Life” have seen the song gather huge new popularity.

The 2007 track originally reached No28 in the UK singles chart, and even made it to No1 in Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway.

Now, sixteen years later, it’s reached the Middle East.

The 36-year-old discussed the phenomenon while appearing on Restless Natives podcast.

She said: “I had started noticing I was getting a lot of comments in Arabic on social media.

“I was like ‘it looks lovely but I’ve got no idea what it says’ and there was just more and more of it.

“Somebody looked into it and there seems to be a lot of videos on social media using ‘This Is the Life’ that are like Ronaldo playing football in Saudi Arabia.

“I said to one of my mates about it and they sent me a photoshop of Jordan Henderson wearing an Amy Macdonald tee-shirt.”

This is the Life now has over 380million plays on Spotify.

The world of football is nothing new for Macdonald, who is married to former Rangers defender Richard Foster.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has provided plenty of highlight-worthy moments this season.

He has scored 14 goals in 13 appearances, also laying on seven assists.

The Portuguese star bagged a double yesterday as Al-Nassr beat Qatari side Al-Duhail in the Asian Champions League.

Sadio Mane and Talisca were also on the scoresheet.
