For the first time the tournament, initially established in Barcelona, is being held outside of Spanish territory in Mexico.
Following the presentation event for the league, Pique headed over to a fan who was holding up a shirt.
However, before he could reach the fan he plummeted down into a gap by the stage.
Marca report the hole he fell down was more than two metres high, with the 6ft 4″ defender disappearing when he fell into it.
However, the report adds the ex-defender was unharmed in the fall.
Following the incident, Pique even had a laugh about it, joking it was a “magic trick” on social media.
Fans could not help but also poke fun at Pique following the fall.
One fan said: “If this is not the fail of the year I don’t understand anything.”

A second said: “HAHAHA HISTORICAL.”
A third said: “I didn’t know I needed to see how Pique fell HAHAHA.”
Another fan joked: “Shakira soon released a song celebrating the fall.”
Following her split from Pique after 11 years, pop star Shakira has aimed a number of digs towards him in her music.
While she did not explicitly mention Pique, fans picked up on the hidden messages in the song titled Acrostic.
In it she sings: “Only one plate was broken, not all the dishes, and although I don’t know how to turn the other cheek, learning to forgive is wise.”
She later adds: “If things are damaged, they are not thrown away, they are repaired, problems are faced and faced. You have to laugh at life even though the wounds hurt.”
There was another pop last month with her latest single The Boss, allegedly a nod to the nickname Pique’s friends gave her.
The Kings League event will feature legends such as James Rodriguez, Javier Hernandez and Miguel Layun.
