LEE SHARPE claims a boozy session with Dwight Yorke prevented the Manchester United Treble legend from joining Barcelona.

Yorke, 51, scored 65 goals in 152 games for United after a move from Aston Villa in 1998.

The striker won three Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford.

And in 1999 Yorke added the FA Cup and Champions League to his collection.

But things could have turned out different for the ace and United had he not gone out for a fateful drink.

Former Red Devils star Sharpe claims he ran into Yorke while on holiday in Magaluf prior to the forward’s United switch.

The duo spent all night drinking as Yorke asked Sharpe about life under Sir Alex Ferguson.

As the clock hit 6am, Sharpe admitted he had to call it a night.

And Yorke then revealed he was supposed to have a meeting with Barcelona at 9am.

But he thanked Sharpe for the night out and added that their drinking session had convinced him to join United instead.

Sharpe told the Undr the Cosh podcast: “Villa were there and I ended up spending the night with Yorkey.

“He left the Villa lads and we ended up going somewhere. He was just pecking my head about United and Fergie.

“He was talking about Fergie and what it’s like at United. It got to six in the morning and I’m like, ‘Yorkey, I’ve got to go, I’m done.’

“He then said, ’thanks for the info, I didn’t tell you but I chatted to Fergie last week and I’m supposed to be meeting Barcelona at nine am.

“‘I think I’ll give that a miss and sign for United’.
