Man Utd’s top chiefs ‘step in to try and resolve standoff between Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag’

MANCHESTER UNITED’S top brass are stepping in to try and settle the dispute between Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag.

The £73million winger’s Old Trafford career is in doubt after a furious public spat with the manager.

Ten Hag dropped Sancho from the matchday squad for the defeat at Arsenal and said the £350k-a-week star’s “performances in training” led to his shock omission.

But 23-year-old Sancho hit back with a statement on social media in which he claimed he was being made a “scapegoat”.

The England international wrote: “I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

Non-international players were given a week off following the Gunners clash.

But Sancho, who has been named in United’s 25-man Premier League squad, returned to training this week.

Now the Daily Mail claims that the club’s football director John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold both decided to get into “the centre of ongoing talks to settle the dispute”.

This report states that Sancho “held discussions with United officials as the club look to draw a line under the public spat”.

And both Arnold and Murtough are “taking an active role in trying to de-escalate tensions” between player and manager.

The chiefs understand that the situation is not a simple one to resolve but Murtough is heavily involved in trying to sort it out while Arnold has been regularly updated on the progress of those talks.

Sancho has now removed the social media post and that has allegedly been “viewed as the first step towards a resolution”.

However, it remains to be seen whether the ex-Dortmund ace will be involved in the matchday squad to face Brighton this Saturday.
