With the match ending in a 0-0 bore draw, Carra found a novel way of entertaining himself after the game.

He couldn’t help but poke fun at Sturridge’s gloves during the broadcast.

The Prada gloves, worth £900, each sported tiny pockets.

Carragher, 45, asked: “The thing that’s really excited me is, what’s in that glove there?”

Sturridge, 33, replied: “It’s all about that drip, that drip baby.”

The former defender then asked what’s in the pocket – with Sturridge replying: “Absolutely nothing.”

He then showed off the empty pocket directly into the camera.

Carney asked: “What’s meant to be in it?”

Sturridge earnestly replied: “Chewing gum, you can maybe squeeze one house key in there.”

Delivering her final statement, Cates joked: “But tonight at Stamford Bridge we saw two sides who once again weren’t able to lay a glove on each other.”

This prompted hysterical laughter from Carragher, Sturridge and Carney.

After seeing the exchange, one fan wrote: “Tbf sturridge has been tops as a pundit.”

A second tweeted: “Some brilliant tv from sky once again.”

And a third commented: “I love Daniel Sturridge so much.”

A further user posted: “I’m all for Daniel Sturridge punditry mind. Quality.”

While another added: “Sturridge with the drip. I see him.”

Sturridge played with Carragher during the final six months of the centre-back’s Anfield career in 2013.

He most recently played for Perth Glory in Australia, making just six appearances before leaving last year.

Examining his old Liverpool side’s current woes, Sturridge pointed to “mental fatigue” – as well as the loss of Sadio Mane.

He said: “I think it’s the life of a footballer and of a team who have been pushing themselves to the absolute limit for a very long time.

“They’ve put a lot of great results together over the past many years and won a lot of trophies but now they’re in a bit of a blip, I would like to say, a little bit in the sense that they’ve lost a lot of confidence, mental fatigue I would say is involved as well.

“They’re working with a philosophy that they’ve lost one of their best players in Sadio Mane which was of course at the start of the season, but the team has started to play differently and the identity they had before isn’t necessarily the same now.”
