Chelsea vs Liverpool betting tips

Underperforming Chelsea take on underperforming Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in what’s become a battle of mid-table mediocrity. The pair languish in eighth and 11th respectively with Champions League qualification virtually out of the question.

The Blues begin life without Graham Potter after the Englishman was relieved of his duties on Sunday. His spell was the shortest of any permanent manager at the club with 12 wins from 31 games in all competitions.

Bruno Saltor has been named caretaker whilst the search for a permanent replacement continues, and he’ll need to lift spirits quickly after Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Jurgen Klopp also has a task on his hands to reverse Liverpool’s fortunes. The Merseyside outfit challenged on all fronts last season but find themselves out of every cup competition and trailing fourth-placed Manchester United by eight points.

The Reds have lost three on the bounce and looked shell-shocked when thumped 4-1 to Manchester City on Saturday. Liverpool haven’t finished outside the top four since Klopp’s debut season in 2015-16 but it’s looking increasingly likely, especially if they fail to get maximum points in London.

Keep it tight…

They don’t half enjoy a draw these two… The pair have played out five-consecutive draws in all competitions over the last 20 months, and the last three have all finished 0-0.

And there’s good reason to think we’ll see a repeat with both sides desperate to avoid defeat. For Chelsea, they’ll hope to see some improvement and the players lift the handbrake following Potter’s departure. Liverpool, meanwhile, have to prevent a fourth-straight defeat and address their wretched away form.

The Blues have registered just 29 goals from 355 shots in the Premier League this season, 17 less than seventh-placed Brentford and only six more than rock-bottom Southampton.

Liverpool haven’t exactly had their shooting boots on in recent weeks. After their 7-0 demolition of Manchester United they’ve scored once in matches against Bournemouth, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Our tip: A goalless draw (0-0) at 12/1 with Ladbrokes

Congested…

With a low-scoring affair in prospect, we’re expecting a real battle in midfield. And that should see both Enzo Fernandez and Fabinho right in the thick of the action.

No Chelsea player has attempted more tackles than January arrival Fernandez over the last two top-flight matches (10). In fact, only five midfielders in the division have attempted more.

Fabinho attempted five tackles against Manchester City in 90 minutes over the weekend, and 70 in 25 Premier League appearances this season.

Our tip: Get Enzo Fernandez over 4 tackles and Fabinho over 3 tackles at 7/1 with William Hill

While we’re at it…

Given we’re expecting Enzo Fernandez to throw himself about, it’s also reasonable to expect the Argentine to risk a caution on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old has picked up nine bookings in 39 appearances for Benfica and Chelsea this season, and went in the book once during the World Cup.

Liverpool will look to hit Chelsea on the break and that increases the likelihood of a cynical foul. Referee Anthony Taylor is in charge and has dished out 120 cautions in 32 games (3.75 bookings per game).

Our tip: Enzo Fernandez to be booked at 12/5 with William Hill
