Conor McGregor rival would ‘probably’ quit if Dubliner gets UFC title shot with a win over Michael Chandler

CONOR McGregor’s UFC rival Justin Gaethje has claimed he would ‘probably’ quit MMA if the Dubliner receives a title.

The American says he may walk away from Mixed Martial Arts if the Irishman receives off a UFC title shot off the back of a win over Michael Chandler.

UFC superstar McGregor, 34, is currently in Las Vegas coaching The Ultimate Fighter opposite Michael Chandler.

The pair are set to throw down after the recording, although a date for the bout hasn’t been finalised as McGregor has yet to re-enter the USADA testing pool.

And former lightweight title contender Justin Gaethje says he wouldn’t be happy if the Dubliner was granted a shot at the UFC title shot after just one fight back into his comeback.

Gaethje told ESPN: “Would I quit if Conor won and they gave him a title shot? Probably,”

“That’s how hurt I would be by the actions of the company I represent. But that’s out of my control. I just really hope that doesn’t happen.

“We can imagine a lot of things, but there’s a possibility that that’s the scenario, which I would be devastated, for sure.”

The Crumlin ace hasn’t fought since sustaining a severe leg break in the trilogy loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021.

And in reality It remains to be seen if he can recapture the form that saw him become a two-division UFC world champion.

With just two scraps remaining in the UFC icons current deal with Dana White run promotion, the fight may take place in the last quarter of 2023.

Dana White also refused to rule out that possibility of a stadium show between the pair.

Speaking with US outlet Fanatics View earlier this month, UFC President Dana White unveiled plans for potential stadium fight between the pair.

White said: “We’re trying to work that out, we don’t know yet, but to go to Dallas Texas Stadium you have to have the right fight.

“And, Dallas Texas Stadium is a possibility…yeah.

“When you look at a fight of that magnitude, you have got to look at Madison Square Garden, obviously Vegas – we could do the stadium there or we could do the T-Mobile. You look at Dallas, Texas Stadium.

“You could also do a massive stadium in London.”
